BALTIMORE, MARYLAND -- APRIL 15, 2004 - The Board of Directors of The Adams Express Company has elected D. Cotton Swindell as Vice President - Research effective March 30, 2004. Mr. Swindell has been an equities research analyst with the Company since 2002, covering the financial and industrials sectors. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Swindell was a securities analyst with Wachovia Securities and with Alex. Brown & Sons. A graduate of the University of Virginia, Mr. Swindell received an MBA from Duke University Fuqua School of Business.

The Adams Express Company is a Baltimore-based closed-end investment company. It is traded on the New York Stock Exchange and Pacific Exchange under the symbol ADX.
